Storyteller’s Corner: Lheidli T’enneh First Nation

Lheidli T’enneh First Nation

As a recipient of BC First Nation Gaming Revenue Sharing funds, Lheidli T’enneh First Nation has been able to focus on its goals for self-determination and self-governance, which are of utmost importance to the Nation. Our goals, which include the revitalization of culture and language programming, as well as promoting health and well-being among its members, are centered in the Nation’s Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP).

Funds provided by BC First Nation Gaming Revenue Sharing have been used to support the vision and mission determined by the community, for the community, through the creation of the CCP.

Specifically, the Nation allocated funds to support public health and safety in the community by purchasing a snow removal tractor and necessary accessories. This allowed sidewalks, driveways and parking lots to be cleared of snow ensuring all members, including small children and Elders, were safe when travelling within community. Further, this has allowed members to access community facilities, such as the Health Centre, Band Office, and Family Development Office, in a safe manner.

In addition to our focus on health and safety via the purchase of snow and ice removal equipment, the Nation was better positioned through access to this funding to build an additional three (3) tiny homes on-reserve and provided renovation improvements to existing homes.

These funds have provided a significant contribution to our community, providing more members with permanent and reliable housing, enhancing overall health and well-being, and elevating the safety and security of members seeking entry to community, their homes and the facilities they use to seek services on their behalf.

Lheidli T’enneh is grateful to be a part of the BC First Nation Gaming Revenue Sharing program, and we look forward to furthering its goals through the funds provided.
